End of Life Doula

An End-of-Life Doula is a non-medical companion who provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families during the end-of-life stage. Much like a Birth Doula supports the entrance into life; an End-of-Life Doula supports the transition out of it – with presence, compassion, and reverence.

What an End-of-Life Doula Does:

  • Holds sacred space for the dying person and their loved ones, offering calm presence, and deep listening.
  • Provides emotional and spiritual comfort, including legacy work (sharing life stories, creating memory projects, or final messages).
  • Guides conversations about dying, grief, forgiveness, and wishes for the final days.
  • Supports rituals or ceremonies, which may be spiritual, religious, or entirely personal.
  • Assists with practical planning, such as advance directives, vigil planning, or after-death care choices.
  • Sits vigil in the final hours, ensuring the environment is peaceful and aligned with the person’s wishes.

Spiritual & Energetic Role:

End-of-Life Doulas Often:

  • Help the dying person make peace with unresolved emotions or fears.
  • Work with the energy field to ease the transition (Reiki or Breathwork may be used)
  • Offer comfort rooted in the client’s spiritual beliefs or simply in human compassion

The Essence:

An End-of-Life Doula serves as a guide, a witness, and a gentle presence – walking alongside someone as they leave this world, and supporting loved ones in the sacred threshold of goodbye.
